CHEO Kids These Days Campaign

cheo kids these days.jpg

People say kids these days have so much more than past generations. Smartphones, video games, treats and busy schedules. But more isn’t always better. Because kids these days also have more health issues than ever before. More mental health issues, like struggles with depression. More need for life-saving surgeries. More time spent waiting in the emergency department. And more complex care needs, with many children facing lifelong illnesses, to name a few. Kids these days need our help - and yours - more than ever.

That’s why CHEO has a plan to transform health care for kids today and tomorrow. And B.A.C.K has partnered with CHEO Foundation in joining their biggest fundraising campaign ever to transform pediatric care.

As Canada’s capital continues to change, grow, and become more diverse, kids these days also need pediatric care that can evolve to serve what they need: accessible and innovative health care solutions when they need them most.

Over the next 10 years, CHEO will remodel, transform, and build to adapt to the growing and increasingly complex needs of children and youth. CHEO also has a strategic commitment to reduce to 50 percent the number of children waiting for services beyond what is clinically recommended. To do so, CHEO Foundation has launched a $220 million fundraising campaign to transform pediatric care. Join our effort - because kids these days could really use your help.

Barrhaven Food Cupboard

BFC.jpg

The Barrhaven Food Cupboard is a grassroots, 100% volunteer-run, and community resourced organization that currently serves 700 food-insecure families (3,000 residents) monthly in Barrhaven. The number of Barrhaven families and individuals who need BFC's food support has increased 44% year over year and is projected to continue to increase. Purchasing food is their major expense, approximately $60,000 per month, regularly accounting for over 90% of the monthly costs.

Barrhaven Food Cupboard clients are a very diverse population – small and large families, many new Canadians, people from varied cultures, single parent households, people living with disabilities, and seniors. Many struggle to manage competing spending requirements with limited incomes, essentially living paycheque to paycheque. Almost half of the clients are under 18, with the balance spread across all age groups. This makes Hunger for Kids a very important issue in our community.

We can not let kids go hungry in our own backyard and this is why BFC and their work is very close to our hearts. BFC relies 100% on community donations and need to raise almost $750,000 to support the operations of the Barrhaven Food Cupboard every year.

By bringing a non-perishable food item to the carnival, you will be starting with a small contribution. But you can continue to donate to them and directly help kids in our community.

Barrhaven Food Cupboard is located at Walter Baker Centre
100 Malvern Drive in Barrhaven.
